11 Bands You May Not Have Heard Of, That i Love

I listen to alot of music. Seriously, no matter what im doing, i almost always have an ipod or something going. Skating, walking, showering, working, you name it, ive got at least one earbud in blasting my newest playlist. People are always asking me what im listening too, and when i name a band or artist they have never heard of, i get a look like i am either retarded or from another country. So for my first post, ill just make a list of some of the retarded ass music i listen to that you may not have heard of.

1.Vains of Jenna

Vains are a rock band from sweden, i think, that look like Guns N Roses illegitimate coked up offspring. The only way you can describe them is SLEAZE ROCK. Its like punk trying to go hard rock, but not really making it the whole way. The guitars are simple, the drum beats are easy to follow and the whole mix kinda sounds like shit, but the band sounds like they are here are ready to party hard. The last album got a new singer, but the band's first couple albums sound like a hard rock hangover that wants to get you up and smashing the Whiskey. Songs to Listen To: Mind Pollution, Heartbreak Suicide, One Last Pleasure, No One's Gonna Do It For You

2. Dirty Penny

Hard to believe that one of the coolest bands ive seen in the last few years started out as a poison cover band. I FUCKING HATE POISON WITH A PASSION, serious, if you like em, thats cool, but i dont. Oh yeah, Dirty Penny is one of those bands who looked like the eighties woke up 20 years later and puked all over LA. Dirty Penny sounds like someone went on a straight heroin binge and then tried to play instruments, and actually could. The lyrics are mixed, with songs about fame, drugs, booze, not giving a fuck and getting fucked, but not really in that order. They look badass, they sound badass, and they totally do not take themselves seriously. They wear their sleaziness like a fucking badge of honor, and i always get a laugh listening to them. Songs to Listen To: Black N Blue, Sleaze Disease, Dead At 16, If I Were You Id Hate Me Too, Scream and Shout

3.Steel Panther

Yeah i like the 80's, big hair, lots of booze, cool cars, Rock N Roll, tons of cool shit. When i first heard Steel Panther, i actually pissed myself with laughter. Seriously, they look like they came right out of 1986, but the songs are all just fucking hilarious. Nothing is sacred with these demented fuckers, songs about butt-fucking, cocaine, orgies, how everything but heavy metal is gay, cheating on chicks, banging strippers, catching the clap, pretty much anything you would never say in public. Steel Panther started as a Van Halen cover band, and then switched the name to Metal Skool, then Steel Panther. Playing in LA and Vegas, they got the attention of many different celebrities and eventually just got popular for being awesome and hilarious at the same time. Recently released a hair metal cover of I Want It That Way, by the Backstreet Boys. Oh yeah, the new album has a song about how to bang as many chicks as tiger woods. Fuck Yeah. Songs to listen to: Gold Digging Whore, Supersonic Sex Machine, Party All Day, The Shocker, Community Property

4. Alestorm

We all love pirates, i think thats obvious due to the fact that those pirates of the carribean movies brought in enough money to buy europe 3 times over. Alestorm is what would have happened if heavy metal existed way back when people where still firing cannons at each other on the high seas. It has a hint of folk music, heavy metal, national anthems, and the high stink of super strong rum. These are the types of songs that make you want to headbang and sing along at the same time while enjoying a strong tankard of ale or some shit, its seriously sweet if you can get a bunch of people doing this at once. We listened to them so much at work that one coworker refused to drive with us anymore because he couldnt hear these songs one more time. Grab a quart and set sail, Alestorm are coming to rape and plunder everything in their way. Songs to Listen To: Shipwrecked, Captain Morgans Revenge, Wenches and Mead, That Famous Old Spiced, Keelhauled

5. New York Dolls

The New York Dolls are like the rolling stones. Like them if the stones were cross dressing punk rockers wearing makeup and from new york. A serious blend of the earliest punk and good old school rock n roll, they kicked major ass way back in the 60's-70's and inspired so many punk acts its hard to even imagine what would have happened if they had never existed at all. I first heard of the New York Dolls in the skateboarding movie BAKER HAS A DEATHWISH, during my all time favorite skater, Jim Greco's part. It blew me away, they have such a raw, gnarly sound, you can literally hear nothing but old school rock guitars and simple drums with some sneering vocals dripping punk all over it. Even though the original line up is gone, ill always have a place in my heart for these rock gods. Songs to listen to: Pills, Lookin For A Kiss, Personality Crisis, Jet Boy, Running Around (Also check out the guitarist's side project, Johnny Thunders and the Heartbreakers

6. Kill Cheerleader

This band is one of my all time favorites, and i just found them last year. Kill Cheerleader was a 4 piece punk band from Toronto that had a love for early Guns N Roses and Motley Crue, and learned to play by practicing old Stooges songs. Men after my own heart if ive ever heard em. Quoted as "A band to watch" by Motley's own Nikki Sixx, and "The best rock band since Guns N Roses" by Lemmy Kilmeister. LEMMY FUCKING KILMEISTER. Let that sink in, if you dont know who Lemmy is, call me, we need to have a seriously long discussion. The band name came from the band members saying "Beat up the jocks and kill the cheerleaders" in high school. These guys sound amazing, im listening to them right now and i feel like i could go out and smash my way through a goddamn police station. The lyrics reek of chaos, anger, and pure energy. When asked to describe the sound of their first full album ALL HAIL, lead singer Ethan Deth said "It sounds like siamese twins getting pissed on by 17 year old Axl Rose while chugging night train!!!" Wow. Sadly, these sick fuckers are either in jail, or on drugs. But if you can track down their Cd's. please, PLEASE!!!! Buy them. They are simply too good to miss. Songs to listen to: Go, Bad Habit, Lady of the Night, Bad Habit, Can't Take It

7. Crashdiet

Another band hailing from the european north, (Im not sure where, one of the cold countries) Crashdiet look like another band kicked out of the 80's. They have had many different singers over the years, due to many different complications, and their sound isnt the best, but majority of the songs have decent guitar and vocal tracks, and the drummer is nothing to laugh at either. Plus, they seriously look badass, like a Shout era Motley Crue mixed in with early GNR. Crashdiet songs arent the most original, but this is one band who works very hard just to be able to play for their fans. Recently they just drove from sweden to australia just to play a few bar shows. Thats dedication. And apparently they are superstars in sweden. Check em out, might be a hit or miss for you, but their songs always give me a little boost. Songs to listen too: Chemical, Caught in Dispair, Tikket, I Dont Care, The Buried Song, Native Nature

8. Die Mannequin

Remember Metric? yeah i prefer not too. Die reminds me of metric, except in the major difference that they sound good. Kinda like a queens of the stone age but not nearly as trippy, they give off a serious punk vibe with a nice blend of hard rock, and lead singer Care Failure (which is a badass name) has one of the gnarliest voices i have ever heard, im pretty sure no one can imitate it. I spent almost 2 years hunting for their first album that only has 4 songs on it, and i found it late last year in a pawn shop for 12 bucks. Totally worth it. Plus shes a total babe. That never hurts. Songs to listen to: Bad Medicine, Fatherpunk, Upsidedown Cross, Do It Or Die, Miss Americunt, Dead Honey

9. Duff McKagan's Loaded

Guns N Roses was one of the best rock band to ever exist. The combo of Axl, Slash, Steven, Izzy and Duff were the driving force that would change music forever. When GNR broke up, and Velvet Revolver backfired, bassist Duff brought together this band that is purely just a rock band. Slower ballads, Harder songs, upbeat tunes, Loaded has it all. This is a band that lets Duff's creativity shine, with great song lyrics, awesome sounding instruments, and a rough yet seriously awesome and moving voice that can put you at piece or get the adrenaline flowing. Duff with always be one of my favorite musicians for his brilliance, and his legendary ability to drink everything in any given building. Check out this side project. I think its really worth it, just for its simplicity and hard rock throwback. Songs to listen to: Dead Skin, Cocaine, Wasted Heart, Sick, Follow Me To Hell, Translucent

10. Children Of Bodom

Last, but NEVER least, hailing from stockholm, is the death metal MONSTERS Children of Bodom. The first time i remember hearing COB was with my friend Chris while we were watching BAKER 3. Dustin Dollin, a 5 foot drunk skateboarding terror, blew across the screen with screaming death metal blaring in the background, destroying handrails and embankments in the process. Our jaws hit the floor and stayed their. My friend Cane said it sounded like megaman went heavy metal. If you dont know what death metal is, its like heavy metal, but 8 times faster, no singing, only screaming, and solos that would blow out your eardrums. I know not many people will like COB, or death metal at all, but there is one big difference between these headbanging scandanavians and other death metal bands. Their Cover Album. Most bands will cover songs in their own genre, (Green Day covering Sex Pistols, Dead Kennedys Covering the Clash, ETC) but COB covers such a wide variety of genres its insane. Ever hear a metal cover of Britney Spears? you will die laughing. Kenny Rogers? get ready to piss yourself. Don't beleive me? Watch the video, you should recognize the song pretty fast. If not, again, you need to take rock n roll 101. Songs to listen to: Trashed, Lost, and Strungout, Needled 24/7, Hatecrew Deathroll, Deadnight Warrior, Everytime I Die

11. Dethklok

Haha, ok you might have heard of these guys. Dethklok technically isn't a real band, they come from a tv show called metalocalypse, a show where Dethklok is one of the biggest economies in the world. They play death metal shows that are overly elaborate and often make no sense, and almost always end with half the audience dying in a tragic matter. It also doesnt help that all the band members are dumb as a goddamn stump, and have near NO CONCEPT of how money works. Its an absolute riot, and one of the funniest cartoons ive seen since south park way back when i was younger. Even though the band members on the show are cartoons, the shows creator, Brendon Small, put together a few talented musicians and actually released 2 albums full of Dethklok's music, called Dethalbum 1 and 2. The songs are over the top, violent, and very, VERY funny. Check out both the show and the music, you might just find something funny. Also, you just might get a glimpse of a rock n roll clown who loves cocaine. RETARDED. Song to listen to: The Gears, Thunderhorse, Laser Cannon Death Sentence, Murmaider, Briefcase Full Of Guts, I Tampered With The Evidence At Odins Murder Site, Im Just a Rock N Roll Clown

There it is, the messed up shit you see me listening to every day, there are A LOT more, but i can't write forever huh? Hopefully you can find something you like here, and if not, then oh well, i tried. Some of this is offensive, some downright disgusting, angry, violent, and definatly not the shit normal people listen to, but fuck it, i love it. Thats my first blog post. IM OUT!!!
